The Lockkeeper's House, 2013
Digital Painting
8 x 10

New doors, old doors, this door has so much character I could not resist! I was amazed that it looked like it had been broken into and not kept up. Such a historical site!

House at Twilight, 2013
Digital Painting
8 x 10

Sometimes the imagination has to take over! I thought that it might be nice to create from a painting in my head. I wanted to underpaint with purple and see where it led. Following the Fells Point Houses, I thought it would be interesting to stay with an architectural piece.

Aged Wine, 2013
Digital Painting

In the mood for wine? NO! in the mood to paint. It sat in front of my while I drew it, and when it was done spilled the last bit down the sink. Just watching wine age. I showed 4 stages of this painting online as I progressed.

Bottle of Red, 2013

Maple Hearts, 2011
Digital Illustration
16 x 24

One of my favorites! In October of 2010 I was out with my best friend heading to Maple Grove Dragway. On the way, I ran into this japanese maple and just had to draw it. I took my computer out and mades sketches, but not wanting to hold up our trip to watch team Force, I took a series of images that helped me finish my sketches to this art. In 2011 this was completed adding the hearts to the negative spaces to signify the love that filled my life.

Walk Tree, 2012
Digital Illustration
16 x 21
October of 2012 I was able to be part of a Walk for a Cure for Juvenile Diabedes. This was a splendid day at Grings Mills in Reading PA. During the walk on the wooded path, I saw the bark just opened up to the inside. I stopped walking for a few to photograph this tree knowing that I would not be able to sit and draw. I started working from the photographs, but then stopped and worked from the memory of the beautiful day, adding the color and vividness of the day.

Winter Hearts, 2012
Digital Illustration
21 x 16
This work came at the end of my working on the "tree" subject. I really enjoyed capturing the textures of the previous trees while blending the subliminal images of the hearts in the negative spaces. I was wondering around the campus where I saw the 100 foot oaks and notice the pruning of some trees for the winter. I was looking for the heart, and there it was... right there in front of me the whole time, just like life.

Autumn Hearts, 2012
Digital Illustration
21 x 16 Autumn is great for color! Like the summer images, as I walked from the office to the cart, this time, I could not help but notice the blended colors of the oaks against the blue sky. I enjoyed drawing most of this image sitting in the grass outside my office with a laptop and a tablet. I brought it inside to change the negative spaces to hearts like summer to remind my self of the anniversary of 11-11-11, she said yes!

Summer Hearts, 2012
Digital Illustration
21 x 16
The first of a series of capturing light and texture while playing with negative space sharing the feelings life brings. I was walking to my office from my car in the summer of 2012. Usually I notice the ground and the bark, but this day I looked up and saw the enormous size of this old oak and was captured by the weight of the leaves as they created a canopy. I went back out after teaching to capture the life and light of this giant. I altered the negative spaces to pay tribute to my wife as I did in Maple hearts.

Love Leafs, 2012
Digital Illustration
10 x 8
I was mountain biking with my best friend and his fiance'. We were about 2 miles into the path when we finished climbing a steep hill. I managed to get to the top, but needed a rest as I leaned against the grey rocks. When I looked down, I noticed the brilliant colors of the leaves over the rocks and had to capture the light. The heart came later as I thought of the people I wished I could share this with!

Clear Mornings, 2012
Digital Illustration
16 x 22

This was an illustration created from the memory of my trip to Maple Grove. I was interested in creating this focusing on technique to capture texture, color, and light. This grew on me as it took much of 2011 to work on. This led me to my exploration with nature and trees.

 Vibrant Waterside, 2011

Digital Illustration
10 x 8
This was a fun illustration that started from sketches of Harpers Ferry. While sitting on the waterside in Harpers Ferry, I enjoyed the lightly wooded area with views to the water and hills. I used this subject to play with texture, foreground and background and light and color looking forward to a magical environment.
